> Moving the blog elsewhere <
Hi there folks...
I've got fed up with the interface here, photo sizing issues and wierd things that go on with the layout on the blog, so, sadly, I now leave this place in favour of a mighty new beginning at http://john-b.blogspot.com/
Thinks should be a lot more fun for me, and you over there. So, au revoir 20six - it was fun, and I shall still use you for my podcastery, but not typing.

> NEW JOHN B SINGLE - PRESS RELEASE <
BETA RECORDINGS PRESS RELEASE
BETA 019
John B
a. Mr. Freud
aa. Red Sky (feat. Shaz Sparks)
Release Date: Jan 24 2008
Barcode: UPC 666017178264
John B's first solo single since last year's critically acclaimed electro drum & bass album Electrostep.
Electrostep is quite simply the most breathtakingly personal album by a drum & bass artist since New Forms. Knowledge Magazine
If you buy one drum & bass album this year, make it this - Album of the month, iDJ
If only all D&B albums were like this - DJ Magazine
Mr. Freud has already had 160,000 plays on John Bs Myspace player, and is John B back at his best, fusing hard D&B beats with luxurious trancey strings, a heavy electrohouse-influencd B-line, and sleazy electroclash-style vocals & roboVocoders. It?s a dirty beast, a stand-out electrohouse-meets-D&B anthem, refreshingly different and another John B-designed genre-busting new direction for D&B.
Red Sky brings John back to the epic Trance & Bass style he pioneered with hits like Up all Night & Electrofreek! but with an updated production style for 2008. Shaz Sparks beautiful vocals compliment the fluid, euphoric trance textures. Grand piano & huge anthemic pads that Armin Van Buuren would be proud of are contrasted by a monstrous, grimey racecar reese bassline and heavy neurofunk groove, still smashing it in a DJ-friendly Drum&Bass framework.

Hi there oh the many millions that read my fabulous blog... Just checking in while some video files convert on my other mac - I'm doing a few video blog things tonight, the one from the Summer of love festival in Czech republic is chuntering away at the moment and will be podcasted in an hour or so, so keep yer eyes peeled...
EDIT>>>> Here it is: www.ilovejohnb.com/JohnB_SummerLoveFest.mp4
I can't remember back past about a week these days, all the gigs and trips seem to melt into one after a while - but there's been a good steady run of parties recently. This past week I flew out to Austria on Thursday and played at the Flex club in Vienna, with Dj Zinc and Dkay. They had me on at 330-5am or something evil like that, so I wasn't in the best hyper mood ever and it was super hot in there too so apologies if i didn't look my animated self! Was driven to Amstetten on Friday by the mighty Alex and his lovely girlfriend, then I watched the flinal 5 episodes of the Sopranos on my iPod in the hotel room and had the best bath EvAr while listening to the Sisters of Mercy on little iPod speakers.
Oh, the food in that restaurant was ACE too, I usually have to subsist on a diet of Gas Station sandwitches, minibar nuts and gallons of wine for several days over the weekend so it was great to get something proper for a change, there's not normally much time - i had a carpaccio of some game meat I forget now for a starter then one of the best beef stroganoffs ever afterwards, and a really nice Austrian dry Reisling. Rock on. I took photos:

Both gigs were really good but i think Amstetten at the Sputnik club was more fun for me, a more intimate, smaller club, less grimey than the big rave-a-delic party in Vienna. Although maybe it was just becuase Zinc kept on bugging me to do the Robot and it put me off a bit! ;-)
All the photos I found online are on my facebook here:

And they look like this:

On Saturday I got back home about 5, had a couple of hours to chill and get unpacked and repack, then Steve/DJ linus picked us up and we went down to Brighton for my gig with Goldie and G Dub at Concord 2. I got a hotel even though its only a 1.5 hr drive so i could stay overnight and hang out with my old uni mates the next day, and just generally have more fun at the party and give Steve a chance to get trashed for a change instead of missioning it back home in the middle of the night - him, matt, jean luc picard off DOA, and nigel all stayed round his mates house, and hayley and I stayed at the Queens hotel, not my first choice, but it was ok, apart from a seagull nest by the window, so we had seagull breakfast time and the associated EEEEEAARRRGkkkk going on for a bit.
Sunday was cool, even though English weather was in full effect, super grey skies, halfheated rainyness, gale-force winds etc - we spent most of the afternoon on the pier over there, played a few video games (almost completed house of the dead IV), everyone else went on the ghost train (which broke half way through and stopped, everyone had to be rescued) and one of our group had the insightful idea of doing MDMA when they woke up - we were all ready to chip in for him to go on the supermegascareybungeewhateverthefekultimate ride, but it was shut becuase of the rain, so we just went on the dodgems instead.
Hayley and Steve on the ghost train, before it broke...

Nothing much else to report really, my Gran is down at my parents' for a couple of weeks so i'll probably hang out with her a bit this week, although i'm doing a halloween party in Germany on Wednesday and Budapest and Belarus at the weekend. There's a lot more photos uploaded to my facebook page now too, that seems to be easier than copying and pasting URLS in on here, so just have a look over there if you'r einterested - saves me time!
Oh, and a few weeks ago I went back to Durham, where I went to Uni, many moons ago. Played in the students' Union, ate 2 kebabs in 2 days, and went back to Klute, formerly named the WORST NIGHTCLUB IN THE WORLD!!! Huzzzah...

> Metro Interview etc <
Hi there folks. All good here at camp-John B. Just got back from a great gig up in Durham on Thursday night, it was the first time I'd been back there since graduating from the Uni, back in 97-98. I went up for 2 days and checked out my old college, Van Mildert, and re-visited all my old haunts. Was great - but a really wierd feeling to be back there after so long! The gig was mental, one of the biggest I've done in the UK for ages actually - so big up everyone that came.
Last night I just went out in Reading with my mate Linus and DAN! to the subfactory night at the Purple Turtle. Had a mighty good sleep, much needed. Steve's driving us up to Leicester tonight, I'm on at the Formfinesse party in the Students' Union there, with heaps of other DnB ppl - should be a great night. Then on Tuesday ANOTHER student do - this one at Kent Uni in Canterbury. Always meant to try to hit up a few Uni gigs around this time of year when all the freshers are in, so its cool to have finally happened, and nice not to have to get on planes and stay in hotels to do the gigs for a change!
Am hoping to plant my tulips tomorrow, I bought a whole bunch when I was in Amsterdam for my Birthday, in a classic bout of middle-aged-ness. Had my garden all landscaped over the summer, long overdue, so this is my little personal contribution so I can feel like I actually did something... ;-)
Oh, and I did an interview for the Metro Newspaper which I think they used for my Swansea gig and this Leicester one too - so here it is for those of you that haven't seen it...
